Heather Heckler joined the FREED staff as a systems change advocate in February of 2003. She is a recent graduate of the University of California at Davis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Heather has enjoyed her job as a systems change advocate because she has been able to meet many different people and learn about the disability rights movement.
Heather is always looking for consumers who are interested in advocating for civil and human rights for people with disabilities. If you are interested in joining an advocacy group or receiving more information about advocacy opportunities, please call Heather at 530 272 1732 (voice) or 530 272 1764 (TTY).

Meet
Melissa Blackwell.  She has lived and worked in Nevada County since 1976.  She moved here from San Francisco, in search of a more peaceful, slower lifestyle. And feels very much at home here.
Melissa says "I have been the Fix-It Program Coordinator since March of this year, when Janet Bullock retired.  It has been fun and challenging to be in this position.  I am rapidly becoming conversant with the issues that face persons with disabilities and seniors in Nevada County, especially challenges faced by people with low incomes.  I feel privileged to be involved with an organization such as FREED; one that gives so much to the community.  It is great working with such generous and selfless people as the Fix-It Program volunteers, as well as working with the terrific staff here at FREED."

Sincere Gratitude to More of FREED's Dedicated Volunteers !!
